#7. Reader’s comments – the Church is too Judgemental

So why don’t you go to church?   “It’s too Judgemental and hypocritical”

“I stopped going to THE church when it became a place of HOLY people, rather than the place to be cleansed. I left when it became the house of the righteous and not the house for the lost and searching. If my search brought me there, was it a crime to ask more questions?

I found judgment from others came easily as breathing. I heard the Word misconstrued and used out of context.

6/12 10 Reasons Why some People don’t Go to Church Anymore

For far in this series, we have defined the main terms used in the discussion on why some people have trouble with the ‘Institutional Church’ system.  Then we went onto looking at some of the basic teachings Jesus left for His church, the Jesus Followers.  We saw that He is coming for His bride, one that has worked on the ‘spots and wrinkles’ with the power of the Holy Spirit rather than self effort.

Now we want to address 10 of the most common reasons why many people have walked away from the modern church.  See what you think about their reasons:

6/11 YouTube – What if Starbucks Marketed Like a Church?

A humorous YouTube video aimed at helping us to stop and look at the introduction of new people to the ‘box’ we call church, uploaded by Richard Reising on October 30, 2008.

I am sure you can identify with some of the comments and the situation with this video.

The question is:  can we do better at being a community, with one Spirit, one faith and one hope versus the latest Starbucks coffee shop Church?

#6. Readers Respond: “Too Much Tradition in the Modern Churches

Why Don’t You Go to Church?

“I tried for 7 years to find a local church that wasn’t either: 1. ….wacky in their understanding of the Holy Spirit,     or 2. Run like the satirical “church” in this video: ‘What if Starbucks Marketed Like a Church?’ A Parable (see our next post)

“I must say that video is a powerful analogy to what most churches feel like nowadays. But that isn’t even the biggest problem. The thing is, I am tired of preachers who are afraid to tell the truth. I am tired of pastors who won’t call sin, sin, and only care about “felt needs” and making people feel better.

#5. Readers Respond: Attendance versus Feeding in the church

Why Don’t You Go to Church?

“Too much emphasis on getting new church attendance versus feeding the sheep”.

“I’m tired of all the new changes to the church direction!  I’ve been at my church for 10 years and I know I’m not perfect.

We get this message constantly from the front, by the few leaders we have in our congregation: “Invite your neighbours!”

“Ok, yes my neighbour needs the Gospel but I’m trying to build my relationship with her first.  The spin in the church is on the money raising, fun sharing, doing group together that I am sure, it would frighten her away.

6/10 Out of “Being” comes the “Doing” in Christian Foundations

Before we launch into further discussion on the basics of Christianity, we need to know the Foundations of the Christian message.

1.  What did Jesus really teach?

From that basis, we can see where the other ‘streams’ of the Counterfeit are coming into the church.

An important part of Christian growth comes by understanding the concept of God’s Law versus God’s grace.  Any striving to please Him – which can even be ‘following instructions to gain His approval’ – or the approval of others, is working under ‘law’.
