7/25 Crossing our own Red Sea for Christian Foundations

We have been using the Old Testament story of the journey of the Hebrew slaves from Egypt.  I am sure you remember their story.  The people of Israel were given their freedom by the Pharaoh and started out with fear and wonder.  (See 7/7 – An Old Testament example of slavery’s iron fist)

Their first challenge: crossing the Red Sea with the armies of the Pharaoh hot on their heels.  Would they stay true to Jehovah’s words … or would they give into their doubts and fears with the enemy’s troops headed their way?  This was a very real test for people still stuck in their slave thinking.  Being free was still a wonder and a new experience for them.

We also go through the same challenges in our faith walk with the Lord Jesus.  In the last part of our series, ‘Slave to Sonship’, we discussed how we all begin as slave when we enter this new wonder of freedom in our Creator’s love.  We are still caught in the ways of the world around us when we try to solve our problems …. until ….. we begin to see there is another way.

Then we reach our own Red Sea experience. Will we give way to the enemy’s lies or stay true to what He has asked us to do?  Will se stay true to what we know of His love and truth for us … or will we surrender to the ways of the world again?  Can we face those enemies and cross through the waves to follow His path?  Will we stay with our faith and cross through to the other side, to continue our growth despite what we see in the natural?

One of the first things He has set out for us is …. Water baptism.  I am aware of the controversy surrounding this topic but where are you in your obedience to Jesus’ command.  Could you share your understanding about this issue with another believer … or a pre-believer?

If you have been nurtured and mentored as a new believer, you will have faced this decision.  Coming into the kingdom is the time for ‘beginning a clean-up’ from the old life style – as the Holy Spirit leads you.  It’s not a exercise to earn you points with a demanding God but rather a time of separation and cleansing from the old into the new.

So, let me ask you: has there been a time of cleansing and deep repentance in your life?  Was there involvement in the occult or other ‘secret societies’ you need to deal with?  The Bible talks about ‘Curses’ over your family and generations?   Have you investigated this issue and worked through your own beliefs?  Do you know how to hear the voice of your Creator, the Holy Spirit’s gentle, quiet urgings?  Have you worked through the life changing teachings about the Gift of the Holy Spirit?  We will be talking about these issues and more in our following posts.

If you find you are unsure of your own Theology on any of these topics, please find the answers rather than drift along in the ‘world of guessing and hoping’ you are OK.  Yes, Jesus has finished all the work but the Holy Spirit is wanted to work these issues out in your life; it’s call Reconciliation, Regeneration, Justified?

Remember John 1:12: “Yet to all who received Him (Has your Heart received Him?) to those who believed on His name (Does your Heart believe on His name?), He gave the right to become the children of God.”  So does your Heart believe you are a Child of the Living God?

  1. What an interesting idea – that our walk with the Lord is similar to what the Old Testament talks about. I never would have thought of that. I’ll now look at my own journey and see how it fits! Thanes, Marissa
