Christian Foundation – Baptism Guest Post

Sometimes when people go through their baptism experience, they are asked to write and share a short testimony.  It is my pleasure to present a Guest Post for ‘Christian Foundations’ as her Baptism testimony of what her journey has been.  I have only known her for a short time, but already I can see the peace in her life that she has been searching for so long.

“I was physically and mentally broken, hardly recognizing the person I had become.  I had become consumed with pain, anxiety and rear.  Each day became a major challenge just to keep going.  I had been living in denial for a very long time, always believing God existed, but not knowing Him personally and wondered why He would bother or care about someone like me.

“Twelve months ago, my youngest sister organized a 3 day trip back to our home town in country Victoria (Australia).  The main reason being to visit Dad’s grave as he would have turned 100 in 2010.

“On our arrival, we wandered in awe as an amazing rainbow opened above us.  The next few days, were life changing for me.  We laughed, cried and retraced childhood memories.

“As I was driving home, I realised that I had an overwhelming feeling of peace, love and happiness somewhere deep within me.  The feeling was so overpowering!  I felt like I could burst.  All right, I felt like I was encased in a protective bubble.  My hands weren’t clenched anymore and I felt very removed from anxiety, pain and unhappiness.

“During the night, I realised I had finally let my guard down and God was able to make Himself know to me.  I was on such a high I couldn’t hide it from anyone.  My son noticed the difference straight away and one of my daughters asked me what I was on!

“My story is a long one and there is so much of God’s magnificence I could include.  In fact it is hard to make this a short testimony of His love.  It wasn’t until I hit rock bottom, losing all control that I realised that God had been there the whole time, waiting very patiently for me to recognize Him and trust Him with my life.  God is awesome!

“I am being baptised today out of faith and obedience to my amazing Lord.”

I have heard many stories like this over the 20 plus years as a Christian Counsellor, especially people coming through the storms of a family breakdown, grief or just a general unhappiness with their lives.  If you are or have been convicted that you too need to be obedient to Jesus’ command to be baptised, (Matthew 28:18, Mark 16:15, Acts 2:38) find a good local church group or a Christian ‘home group’ and allow them to celebrate the experience with you.   Make it a party, a celebration of new life!

If you have a story you would like to share, drop me an email!  ….or make a comment at the end of this post!
