4/4 So where has the New Age Movement come from?
Welcome back to our discussion on the New Age, what this movement believes and how it has come into existence. In this post, we shall continue to look at the more common ways the New Age has touched our culture and some key terms we all have become aware of.
A. THE NEW AGE AND THE OCCULT ARE ALL AROUND US
As you look around you, you can see the New Age Philosophy has become so prevalent in the Western culture, mostly within the last 35 years. Its roots are based in the Hindu traditions but the deeper lies go all the way back to the Garden of Eden.
The philosophy has exchanged its Indian robes to the more respectable suit and tie business in the guise of self-help groups, expanded consciousness or holistic health. Terms like higher consciousness, global village, holistic, meditation, crystal therapy thrive in the spiritual vacuum left as people abandon the Christian truths of past generations.
Whether in medicine, ecology, education, psychology, health and nutrition, entertainment, business practices or even science, the New Age thinking has heavily influences the way Westerners think about themselves and the world around them.
Today, the most common New Age and Occult views are spread through:
Group: |

The primary emphasis of the New Age is on Self and self pleasure. The widespread use of divination, spirit guides and awareness is a clear tie with the occult world. The futile attempts to disguise this underlying fact shows the hidden, deceptive work of the kingdom of darkness; even the word ‘occult’ means ‘hidden’.
B. IN CONCLUSION
Whether we see a good cause in world peace or freedom from control and corrupt laws, the question becomes: ‘Does the end justify the means’ to reach a ‘higher level of existence’. Having a ‘One World Religion’ sound good but again, a what cost?
As we have journeyed through the theme of the New Age, much of its teachings are direct contrasts to th word of God while some concepts are so close to what Jesus taught …but for our future. What a mixture of good and evil, of darkness and light.
Using spirit guides to explore the other dimensions of space is really exposing ourselves to the reality of the darkness the Bible warns us about. There is only One Creator but two opposing sides: Light and the absence of light. Which side are you on and how has your thinking been influenced by the New Age views of an impersonal force or a God who knows and love YOU?
In our next post, we shall continue with the challenge of the New Age to the Followers of Jesus Christ by looking at why such teachings and lifestyle is in opposition to the Bible. What is the harm in using spirit guides and Ouija Boards? Isn’t it all just fun and games?
