7/51 Christian Foundations – the Orphan and the Treasured Child

Here are some of the contrasts in being an Orphan and a Treasured Child in your view of our Creator God:

An Abandoned Orphan

A Treasured Child

Independent / self reliant

interdependent / acknowledge our need for Him and others.

Strive for praise, approval and acceptance of people out of doing

Totally accepted in God’s love and justified by His grace.
Self-rejection and comparisons with others, feeling humiliated at mistakes

Motivated by deep gratitude of unconditional love and acceptance by God with humility.

Seek ‘counterfeit comfort’ such as addictions, escapism, busyness, hyper-religious activity

Seek times of quietness and solitude to rest in Father’s presence.

Competition, rivalry and envy about others success and position

Respect, able to rejoice in other’s success and blessings.
Accusation, gossip, slander in order to make yourself look good

Seek to restore others in a spirit of love and gentleness.

Seeing authorities with distrust and a source of frustration

Respectful, honouring, seeing them with faults tue, but ministers of God’s god in your life.
Difficulty receiving criticism, easily hurt and hard to accept discipline as sees this as ‘punishment’.

Seeing own faults and the need to be taught for growth through discipline.

Guarded and conditional in acceptance of others, sees their performance to help get your own needs met

Open, patient, easy to teach as you lay your agendas before the Lord to meet the needs of others.
God’s presence is conditional and distant He is there for you even if you don’t ‘feel’ Him with your emotions.
Finds it hard to hold onto lessons taught

Easy and open to truth, can apply new wisdom to life.

Feels alienated and separated from others

Without judgement, open to others yet knows God’s truth.

We trust these contrasts will help you see where you are when it comes to an orphan spirit – because there are answers.
